In the current political environment, where we seem to have…well, lost our collective minds or at least our ability to be civil, Sen. Marco Rubio gave a speech on the floor of the Senate that is worth taking the eight or so minutes to listen to in its entirety.
I, frankly, have been dumbfounded at the level of emotion and vitriol, and the examples of “I want nothing to do with you because you like (insert candidate here) or don’t hate them as much as I do”. These days, we can’t listen to someone’s music because they may have played or not played at a certain place, we aren’t supposed to buy (or have to buy) certain products because the company didn’t do what we thought they should with their politics or they actually shook hands with the wrong person (gasp)
A couple of excerpts from Rubio’s speech:
“We are becoming a society incapable of having debate anymore.”
“I don’t know of a civilization in the history of the world that’s been able to solve its problems when half the people in a country absolutely hate the other half of the people in that country.”
It’s worth a listen, and worth taking to heart.
