Updated: Do As I Say, Not As I Do

That seems to be the motto of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Though Michigan has eased a few restrictions, late last week Gov. Whitmer extended the state’s lock down guidelines through at least the middle of next month. During the announcement, she also reminded people against any non-essential travel.

Roughly 150 miles away, a dock owner was preparing for the holiday weekend and for residents to get outdoors on their boats, which had recently been allowed. As you can imagine, he was working feverishly as the combination of a long weekend and an easing of some of the lock down restrictions had many people ready to get out on their boats. And that included one gentleman who, when told that he would have to wait until the dock owner got to him because of the many people ahead of him, became irate.

The boat owner, Marc Mallory, pulled his ace card. “I am the husband of the Governor”, he told the dock master and insisted that his boat be ready to go when he wanted it.

It seems that either Gov. Whitmer and her family think of boating as ‘essential travel’ or she’s a hypocrite. You may decide for yourself.

UPDATE:

The Majority Leader of the Michigan Senate, Mike Shirkey, posted on social media about the incident but deleted his post after he got a call from the Governor’s office, assuring him that the incident did not actually happen.

Yet, Governor Whitmer later held a press conference and said that the incident did happen but that her husband was making a joke. And then she went on to ask for compassion and understanding.

Understanding that her family thought her rules were for everyone but them?

The Success of Socialism?

Venezuela’s government took to the press to announce what they felt was a major milestone over the weekend.

You may recall that Hugo Chavez, the President of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, took power in 2007 and the United Socialist Party has ruled the country ever since. Continue reading “The Success of Socialism?”

I Wonder What She Thinks of Chinese Checkers?

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), a former presidential candidate and reportedly a top contender to be Joe Biden’s Vice President, introduced a resolution in the Senate this past week on the coronavirus. But this one was a little different. Among one of the top things she felt the government needed to deal with in the pandemic, Harris introduced a resolution that would declare the term ‘Wuhan virus’ as racist and a form of hate speech. Yes, labeling the virus by where it originated is racist in her mind.

No one has asked yet how she refers to the last mass workwide pandemic (she certainly can’t call it ‘The Spanish Flu’). And Thinking Man isn’t sure about her tastes in food, but I can’t help but wonder her opinion on Memphis BBQ or German potato salad.

Racism is Ok in One Circumstance

A hallmark of racism is when there is an assumption that a group of people are all alike: that they all act alike, speak the same way, think the same way and can be judged by a stereotype that simply must be true because they are a member of a certain group and everyone in that group has to be alike. China Throws Down the Gauntlet (Again)

Before the most recent pandemic, the big news out of China was the protests in Hong Kong over the puppet government’s proposed law to allow extradition from Hong Kong to China, which would have tightened Chinese control over Hong Kong. The massive protests forced Hong Kong’s government to withdraw the proposed law and pro-democracy candidates won overwhelming majorities in elections. But the Chinese Communist government doesn’t give up so easily. The Arrogance of Illinois Gov. Pritzker

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has asked for a bailout from the federal government to help with the state’s debt and high spending, saying that the current pandemic has put them in a financial crisis. To be blunt, that’s simply not true. Continue reading “The Arrogance of Illinois Gov. Pritzker”

PA Governor Tom Wolf Flip Flops

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf is upset. The Governor has issued orders locking down the state in light of the current pandemic. But as the nation has ‘flattened the curve’ and the economic devastation continues to grow, people are becoming anxious to begin reopening life. That’s especially true in areas that are not hit as hard as others. In Pennsylvania, that means that there are cities and towns that have decided they are going to pass their own ordinances that begin reopening their businesses despite the Governor’s continued lock down.
