As Thinking Man mentioned in a ‘weekend quick take’, last week the Federal government announced that they had sent over a million stimulus checks (totaling roughly $1.4 B) to dead people by mistake. Yes, dead people. If that isn’t a good enough reason to realize that voting by mail is a bad idea, here is one more-a practical example where it was tried.
In the city of Patterson, NJ they decided to hold a mail-in election for city offices. And in doing so, them demonstrated very clearly why voting by mail is a bad idea and invites corruption.
The third largest city in the state, Patterson held the election totally by mail in deference to the restrictions during the pandemic. When they went to count the ballots, they found that roughly 1 in 5 (19%) were fraudulent.
Over 800 ballots were invalidated for appearing in mailboxes improperly bundled together, including one mailbox alone where hundreds of ballots were in a single packet.
The board of elections disqualified thousands of other ballots after concluding the signatures on them did not match the signatures on voter records.
Do we need any more evidence?
