A list of staffers at a publishing house have written an open letter calling for Penguin Random House to cancel the book deal for Supreme Court Justice Amy Comey Barrett.
In their letter, the group claims that its signers “care deeply about freedom of speech” and “recognize that harm is done to a democracy…by censorship” but that Barrett should be silenced because of her vote to return decisions on abortion to the states.
Yes, you read that correctly: they are all in favor of freedom of speech and against censorship…until it is something they disagree with. And seemingly, the signers cannot see the inherent ridiculousness of such a statement.
One cannot help but be reminded of the words of the late William F. Buckley, who said “Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, and then are shocked and offended to find that there are, in fact, other views.”
Countries of the world are to meet in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh in mid-November to talk about the ‘climate crisis’ and one of the main items on the agenda is money. President Biden’s ‘Climate Czar’ John Kerry will attend and represent the US. You remember John Kerry, the rich former Senator who infamously flew in his private jet to Iceland for a previous meeting on the need to reduce carbon emissions and to receive an award for batting climate change?
Kerry is backing a proposal by a large group of mostly Third World countries that would have developed nations pay reparations for being developed and ‘causing’ the climate problems of the world. (Of course China, the current largest carbon emitter would be excluded). Discussions are that these reparations would be in the trillions of dollars (yes, with a ‘T’ and plural)
That begs the question that how would developed countries pay all that money to these poor countries if they did not use all that energy and fuel to run the factories and fuel the economy?
For those who believe the talking points that inflation is just the lingering effects of the pandemic and Russia’s war in Ukraine and have nothing to do with government spending, there is this…
The Chicago Federal Reserve released a paper that said that half of all of the increase in inflation is due to government fiscal policy. Translated, that means that the government continuing to spend so much money and pump money into the economy is as big a cause of inflation as everything else, combined.
Seattle City Council member Kshama Sawant wrote and publicly released a letter to city officials saying that the Seattle Police Department had “failed to investigate” incidents where bags of feces were thrown at her house and into her yard, some with notes calling her “the queen of s***”.
Sawant has previously advocated deep cuts to the police force, forcing the police to cut staff and prioritize their work.
Sawant obviously either cannot make the connection in her mind between cuts to the police force and the ability to respond or she thinks that someone throwing a bag of feces in her yard rises to the level of high priority over violent crimes, felonies, etc..
During a recent TV appearance, Eric Trump, son of the former President, said there is ‘no longer’ a Republican Party.
Stating the end result of what has often seemed to the goal of President Trump: not to advance policy or to get certain things done but to get power for the sake of power, the younger Trump said “It’s no longer the Republican Party, it’s the Trump Party.” Goal accomplished, Eric?
When the state of Georgia passed its voter integrity law last year, cries went up from liberals everywhere. President Biden said the law’s purpose was to “suppress your vote and to subvert our elections.” Donna Brazile, the former Chair of the Democratic National Committee, said it was “Jim Crow 2.0”. Major League Baseball became self-righteous and pulled the All-Star game out of Atlanta. Delta Airlines and Coca-Cola, both headquartered in Georgia, expressed their moral outrage. Biden’s Justice Dept. filed a lawsuit.
