Trump’s War On The GOP (cont.)

At a campaign event over the weekend, Trump took a shot at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and referred to him as ‘Ron DeSanctimonious’.

However, some notable conservative figures who normally give a pass to Trump’s behavior reacted to Trump’s insult of a leading conservative figure.

Several conservative commentators and authors, including ones from Townhall, The Spectator and American Conservative, remarked about the shot from Trump.

“What an idiot,” tweeted Rod Dreher, an editor at The American Conservative “DeSantis is a far more effective leader of the Right than Trump was, if, that is, you expect a leader to get a lot done, rather than just talking about it.”

“Nothing like trashing a Republican Governor 4 days before Election Day when his name is on the ballot. #team,” said GOP campaign strategist Josh Holmes.

“What has Ron DeSantis done to earn Trump’s scorn here right before an election?” tweeted Scott Morefield, who writes for Townhall. “It’s inexcusable and just shows this has always been about him.” (emphasis added)

And that’s the thing with Trump. Trump took a shot at DeSantis because he is worried that DeSantis might run against him in the primaries in the next election. It’s that simple. It is not about policy or about disagreements over legislation or issues.

It has always been that way. That is why you will never hear Trump talk about why he disagrees with something or someone, or why he is in favor of something. His response is always to come up with a derogatory nickname or make a personal insult. Because he simply can’t talk policy, and frankly, really doesn’t care. That’s why he was a large contributor to the Hillary for Senate campaign and only four years later ran against her. It is only about power for Trump.
